One of Joan Miró’s friends and colleagues since 1956, Jacques Dupin assisted the painter in his work as an engraver and lithographer, as well as preparing catalogues, albums and illustrated books. This book is a partial re-compilation of the analyses contained in the author’s first far-reaching study of Joan Miró, which appeared in 1961, now considerably reworked and enriched.

Illustrating a volume of Jacques Dupin, a close friend and influential critic of his work, allowed Miró to align his own art with yet another form. The delicate etched lines leading the eye in different directions across the sheet in this work are reminiscent of the stanzas in a poem: all connected but with their own purpose and role.

The Jacques Dupin Library was formed from part of the monographs, exhibition catalogues and journals from Joan Miró’s private library which the artist donated in 1976. Together with publications on Miró that the library has compiled and acquired over the years, these materials constitute an essential documentary archive for the study of Miró’s work.
